I just saw the word cake โ when I was having a sweet rush moment and automatically inserted date in diary for The Cake Fair in Ghana (3rd August 2019). There were other events on the same day: Monthly artisan market, and Natural Hair & Beauty Expo. So I spent the day with twins Akweley and Kitewa visiting from UK.
I have attended the artisan fair at the Dubois Centre several times (1st sat of every month) and made some unique purchases, from food, creams, jewellery. As well as collect several business cards for items that I am interested in. Very impressed with the creative artists that I want to buy most items.
A group of young boys who are part of the Junior Shapers Africa (JSA) initiative informed us about their charitable cause. Members of JSA are involved on a humanitarian project as part of the Future Men Boot Camp (FMB). They were selling shea butter soap, cream and making pancakes in order to raise money for Library books and sanitary towels for Somnyamekodur D/A basic school in Central Region. I had only munched on a small box of popcorn, so was feeling peckish so around 4:30pm we travelled to La Palm Royal Beach Hotel which both cake and hair event were taking place โ a bonus.
As soon as you entered the room full of ray of confectionary stared me in the face โ so the sampling began from chocolate delights to banana and ginger cake. There was a ‘no -ook choco cake’ but no vegan confectionary organisations represented at the fair.
After a demonstration on making fondant decorations the facilitator attended to her stand and began dashing out free goods to a surrounding crowd. Afro beats played in the background which turned the room into a mini party with people videoing themselves dancing to the beats. Well thatโs how we slay at a cake fair after a sugar rush.
It was fascinating to see a vase showing the processing tiers from grain to bromate free flour by Flour Mills of Ghana.
Natural Hair and Beauty Expo
Situated on the lawn area was a huge stage where we were just in time for the fashion catwalk with beautiful designs and headwraps, followed by a hair show, Mr Beard an Miss Natural Hair 2019 competition. The 3 day event being organised by African loom. We were entertained on stage by African drum and dance group Abajo.
We can say thoroughly had a joyous outing of Shopping, Tasting Cake and Watching a Hair & Beauty show. At home, yes of course I had a few samples of the carrot cake in the jar, that I was gifted with by the twins.
