Olympic Highlights

Olympic Highlights

Most people were watching the Opening ceremony performance which was long for me so I turned back on the TV just before the entrance of the athletes with their representatives. Most people talk about how many medals Team GB won and the Jamaican athletics team. But for me the highlight was not just the Jamaican 1,2,3 in 200 metres but the opening ceremony when the African countries entered the stadium with pride wearing their national colours entwined in their cloth. Of course as a love of head wraps the women represented with style. I remember the commentator saying as Senegal entered the stadium โ€˜its started to look really colourful nowโ€™.

During the ceremony I receiving text and messages from my Nigerian work colleagues saying โ€˜ did you see Nigeriaโ€“ โ€˜wat de happen to Ghana โ€“ wer de colours, wer de national clothโ€™. I had to remind them that out of respect for our president Atta Mills ย passing to be wih the ancestors on Wed 25th July, the athletes wore black with red arm bands and red scarf.ย  But Ghana did represent in the Paralympics opening ceremony with fine style kente printย and dancing whilst parading through the olympic stadium.

Here is my top 10 opening ceremony entrance count down.
